F57F-18C830-DC vs. F87F-18C830-AB?

I have a 96 Sport w/ the Clarion CD changer/player part no. F57F-18C830-DC. The changer broke once and I fixed it (with some leftover screws) & subsequently went completely kaput a couple months later after I hit a hard bump o/r. I replaced it with a Clarion changer part no. F87F-18C830-AB which worked for a couple tracks but then stopped with a "no disc" message. I took the 6-disc cassette out and replaced, worked fine initially but then it stopped again with a loud audio pop. I know these changers came from different years, but are they incompatible? Thanks.
