As I was sitting here reading some posts the alarm on my 96 X which is sitting in the driveway started going off. No reason. Nobody is out there. Why?

Yesterday I noticed that I had a "door ajar" warning light on. All the doors are fine. Why?

We are going thru a bitter cold snap, could that have anything to do with these problems. Could they be related?

If it is a factory alarm, use a scanner to check the GEM module for the "last alarm events". This will tell you exactly what set the alarm off. Your X will tell you what it is thinking, you just need to ask it (nicely).

Check the lift gate and glass too. They will make the door ajar light come on if not completely closed.

If that's not the problem, you have a door switch going bad.

i had the same post awhile ago. i had to pull the sensors on my rear drivers side door and hatch window. it's funny cuz the alarm was doing that to me too when i had these door ajar problems. it can't be a coincidence.

The alarm went off because of the door ajar problem. One of the little switches to tell if any of the doors are open went bad. The alarm thought one of the doors was being opened and went off.

well i just pulled the switches for now. only downfall is light won't come on when that door or window is opened. on the hatch there is 2 seperate ones for the window and liftgate.

I determined that the rear hatch lid switch was not reading the hatch as being closed despite it being closed. I slammed it shut and the "door ajar" lite went out. I'm suspecting that this switch might need to be replaced. Thanks for the advise.

Dang good thing it didn't go off at 2AM. I'd be outside in my skivies and 9MM wondering what the heck was going on. Neighbors would have loved that.

Before replacing these switches, try giving them a shot of WD-40. I solved a sticking E-brake light switch on mine that way. I doubt if these switches are lubed at all from the factory, and a bit of WD-40 (or something similiar) seems to bring them back to life.

it's funny you say that b/c when it happenned to me it was 2 am and it happenned twice. until i said screw it and disconnected the battery til the morning. my neighbors i'm sure wanted to kill me.

For the record this is probably not your problem... but that is a common "technique" used by car thieves to test your car alarm and also your response. Due to the fact that it is disturbing the neighbors, you might even disarm the alarm - bingo. Could break the window and come back later and see what they can steal because the alarm is off.

You know, since my last post (above) I went over everything that happened and in what sequence. One major item I overlooked was that when the alarm went off, it wasn't armed. Door ajar light had been on for about a day. But I did not lock or arm the alarm at the time it went off. Now what?????????

I guess I need to have the puter scanned, right?

Similar Thing happened to me. turned out i had the hood open but not unlached, when the wind blew in the middle of the night it lifted my hood just enough to set off the alarm.
