I am pretty sure I have the premium audio system in my ranger. Recently I installed a midrange HU (Sony Xplod 180 watt) so that I could listen to my iPod on the way to work. The radio is able to kick on the factory amp but the CD or aux won't and so I hear nothing when I switch to them. I made sure it wasn't the HU by hooking up an old speaker and it was able to play CDs and aux perfectly. I went to the ford dealership and they told me the factory amp was in the back passenger side of the truck but I can't find it. Am I looking in the right place. The diagram the guy at the ford dealership was referencing was for a ranger without an extended cab, but mine has one. Do I need to bypass my amp? Is it a wiring issue? Am I looking in the wrong place? Please help.

Did you get the aftermarket radio harness designed for Ford's with a factory amp? When I put my Pioneer headunit in, I had to return the regular wiring harness I bought, and got one specifically for Ford's with a factory amp - it was about $15 versus the $7 or $8 for a standard one. My headunit utilizes the amp for my iPod, CD, FM Radio, XM Radio, USB drives, and AUX devices - and it sounds GREAT!

I bought the cheapest wiring harness I could find. I will check my wiring harness to see if that is the problem! Thanks
