Hey guys, i'm new here, and i'm having some trouble removing the factory CD player in my 94 expy. I've changed ford units before, so i know that you have to stick nails or coathangers in the 4 little holes to pull the unit out. But I cant seem to get this one to come out. It seems to be loose, i can shake it around, but it feels like there is something else holding it in from the back. Did ford put anything else in there to secure these things?

Thanks,
TJ

Rear bracket

There is a rear bracket mounted to the radio. It should not hinder the radio from coming out, but, it does need to slide forward on a rail bracket that is fixed into the instrument panel. Once the radio is slid forward far enough on the bracket, there are reliefs in the bracket that will let you tip the radio down and clear the rail.

I know a lot of guys say they get these radios out with coat-hangers and nails, but it is really best if you use the correct tools. The tool has a notched end - you slide them in until that notch catches on the spring clip - if you push beyond that point, the spring clips may come back outboard enough to catch the lip of the instrument panel opening. With the removal tool engaged properly, exert a slight outward pressure on the tools, which helps to retract the spring clips into the radio chassis.

Take your tools out, push the radio back into place, and start all over again, trying to make sure you release both sides at the same time. Good luck.

any idea where i can buy the correct tools?

Hey, thanks guys. I took it by a stereo shop and since they werent busy a guy there pulled it for me, and even with the tools it took him a good ten minutes. Now i'm just waitin on some parts to bypass the amp and whatnot.
