Guys I have the original radio that comes with the 1998 Explorer Eddie Bower edition. It has the steering wheel remote controls. The LCD view has died after the dealer has fixed it twice but that was 5 years ago. Is there a site that has instructions on how to do this my self? TIA

I got mine I'll sell ya that has been fixed previously and works with no flaws ;)

just deal with it(until you install an aftermarket radio)....mine was fixed and 10 mins later it broke again.....its very common from what i hear and sometimes fixing it dont last(as we can see)

Try to get a newer one without the RDS button on it. Those weren't affected. But you have to find a Mach unit.

Will the aftermarket radios work with the steering column controls if I can't get this one fixed? I also have rear controls will they work with after market radios?

They make kits to allow this. I do believe Crutchfield has them.

steering wheel will work(with a kit i assume)..rear will be useless

I sent mine to a place in Mass. It was around $110.00 and they advertise that they put in new parts. It's been 3 months and so far so good. If you want to e-mail me for the site, when I get home I'll get the name for you. They were pretty good to deal with. ricktoro@sbcglobal.net :us:

Just after I bought mine a couple years ago, the combo switch in the column took out the radio display. Puff of smoke from the column, no more display. Had the switch and the radio replaced at the same time and no problems since. In other words, minor electric problems can take out the display. If these problems aren't fixed, then the display is likely to break over and over again.

Just last week I freaked the hell out because I thought I lost the display again. Took me about a few minutes to find that my lights were on during the day, which dimmed the display to the point where I couldn't see it. I was pulling a trailer. I checked the trailer lights before I started out, but forgot to turn the lights off when I was done.

did your switch in th wheel still work after you had you smoke event?
