Looking for a speaker to give me good mids and highs.Going in a 99 Sport , already have a sub. Should the rears be replaced also ? Any opinions on Pioneer?
Try doing a search. When I was looking for speakers I found a ton of information & opinions here. There is a ton of info, so that kind of makes it hard to decide too. Almost any aftermarket speaker will sound better than stock. I think some good brands would be: Pioneer (what I got) , infinity, boston, Blaupunkt. I got the Pioneer because they had the widest frequency response range, and they were at wal-mart, so they were cheaper than most other stuff. I love them, but they seem to be lacking a little in the bass area. But if you already have a sub, that won't matter. Highs are excellent, although some might argue they're a little harsh. Good luck, and let us know what you decide.
Right now crutchfield has a special on their Polk EX series speakers - buy one pair, get a second for half off. They have two types that fit the factory locations: 6x8" and 5.25" (with supplied mounting brackets). These are great speakers. They have awesome midrange and treble (and not too shabby bass for little speakers), plus they have a rotating tweeters lens which is great for aiming the treble (this truly helps imaging). The EX series is the good series from Polk with the silk dome tweeters. I went for the 5.25" speakers with the brackets (got an addition $10 off by getting them from the Scratch n' Dent store) and got everything shipped for under $80! I love the sound -- SO MUCH BETTER THAN STOCK (and I had the JBL premium speakers). And to answer your question, yes, you should replace the rear speakers. I didn't think it was necessary, untilI replaced all 4 speakers and heard the difference. The muddy bass/midrange and highly uneven response from the back speakers ruins any good sound up front. This is the best investment I've made in my car stereo -- well worth the money.
i second the crutch field and i went with pioneers 3way sound good and are chead. i would recomend that you install them your self not really hard and you know it was done right. not to mention you still have money in your wallet.
