hey guys, first post here,
just picked up a 99 EB exploder, and the factory sub is junk
im looking to find a thread or some info on replacing it
not looking to upgrade anything else at the moment, just looking for a good sub that fits in the factory enclosure and sounds good and is low priced :)
any help is appreciated , i didnt see a sticky on it, but figured it was a common issue
thanks in advance
Rich

Anyone know the mounting depth of the original 6.5" JBL woofer?

Not very. There's only 3.5-4" of depth to the stock enclosure. 6.5" woofers aren't very deep, either.

Most replacement 6.5" woofers will fit no problem.

If you're going to an 8" in the 6.5" enclosure, you'll probably want a shallow mount sub, no more than 4-5" deep, even with mounting it on the outer surface of the factory enclosure.

Most 97's had the MACH system with the 8" sub stock, though, and a shallow mount 8" goes right in. You can use deeper 8" subs with a MDF spacer ring to bring the sub out more.

im still looking for the perfect replacement to work with the factory amp and enclosure, but dont want to spend $100,
what is the best efficient replacement for me?

JL Audio W0 has been the best replacement i've seen honestly.

I had to replace my stock JBL woffer when i first got my 94 X. I just went to my local audio shop and they were able to order me a new JL 6.5 that mounted right into the old spot.I think it was around right around $100.
