hi

i've got a 5.0 with the 5spd and 4406 swap. after i did the swap almost a year ago i've noticed the power doesnt seem to be where the old engine that had low compression on cyl number 8 and the auto. i havent gotten it untill now because i've been busy working on and driving on my other cars

what supprized me was when i took it out for a drive with a ford IDS scan tool and it was only advanced 15degrees at WOT, seems to me thats not nearly enough. The PCM no idea what range it thinks the transmission is in, and this i'm thinking is what is effecting the timing.

anyone have any ideas if the range will effect the timing advance at WOT and other load conditions

no ideas?

When you swapped the auto did you have the auto's parameters taken out of the computer? If not that could be your problem. If so, double check to make sure it was done right.

im asking if the range selection affects timing, really thats all you need to know.

yes or no?

if so i can simulate a range with a resistor, making the PCM think that the transmission range selector is in whatever range i want or i'll swap in a HEI distributor and retime it.

The short answer to my earlier post is, yes.

do you know if the timing is changed from range to range? like different timing maps for drive vs 1st/low gears?

Im thinking i'm probably going to swap in a HEI style dizzy, for the sake of adjustablility. if i did get the PCM thinking it was in a gear range and more towards normal timing, it would probably still be quite conservitave as timing advance curves go.

Okay trying to remove the old cam pos sensor and it defiantly feels like its locked I the block, the body turns free around the shaft, and the shaft and the body have some wiggle room side to side, but it refuses to lift out.... Wtf =[

that thing is stupid stuck in there.

any ideas?

It has an O-ring seal, it gets stuck, pry it our or use slide hammer.

You should just stick with DIS and have your PCM re-programmed, works perfect for me.

re-read my posts, body moves freely its been in the engine less then a yr.

i live in hill billy heaven, "dango' carbunatit, runnz beettr" is the default reply when any troubleshooting comes to fixing FI systems on any car around here.
