I changed my serpentine belt because one of my pulleys froze and it shredded. Now that a new belt is on the fan noise is extremely loud. It was not noticeable before the belt shredded. Is it possible that there is too much fan noise or was my old belt so stretched out it kept things quiet?

It is possible your fan clutch somehow got damaged when the belt broke.. The fan clutch is a fluid clutch that allows the fan to "free wheel" or spin freely when the engine is running at higher rpms. If it is damaged, the fan will be forced to spin at full engine rpm's, causing a "roar" from the fan.

With your engine shut off, you should be able to easily spin your fan by hand - you'll feel a little resistance from the oil on the inside of the fan clutch, but the fan should spin smoothly.
