I am a little confused. I have replaced my fair share of blower motor resistors over the years on many different vehicles. Some are simple resistance Springs, some have been more elaborate printed circuit boards.

Usually one or several of the fan speeds does not work when the resister go to bad, but generally max speed will still work. My 2006 explorer with the basic manual air-conditioning system seems normal on fan speed three and four, but one and 2 both seem exactly the same like the way I would expect fan speed 1 to feel normally. I have never experienced this on any other vehicle and I’m wondering if anyone else has.

Mine was almost the same. Seemed to be less and less airflow - so finally replaced the blower... While it was out I reached up and pulled two large mouse nests out of the duct - had been there for awhile and had finally shifted enough to make a difference I felt needed to be addressed.

I was also considering checking for restriction in the honeycomb grid of the heater and air-conditioning, but one and two are exactly the same airflow and sound three and four are noticeably better
