My '92 Explorer has 123,000 miles on it. Whenever i ride it for more than an hour, it kicks into a 2,500 rpm idle whenever i put it into park. Occasionally, it will start up with the same fast idle when the engine is warm. Any suggestions?

Just an experiment, why don't you reset the computer. In case you don't know, here it is in a nutshell:

Disconnect the (-) battery cable for about 15 minutes. Then reconnect it and let the truck idle with all accessories off for about 10 minutes. Over the next few days the truck will relearn how to operate. That may or may not fix the problem.

Does it have any other symptoms? How does it idle in gear? Any drop in mileage?

It idles fine in gear, and i havent noticed any change in mileage since it is a recent problem. The truck will overheat if i let it idle for 10-15 minutes without moving.

If your engine is overheating, it will idle high to try and cool down. You may want to flush your radiator/change your thermostat. I think your problem lies there.

i have the same problem. the first time that it happened i took it somewhere because the check engine light came on. when it was checked out it was found that the temp sensor was bad. try that if you have the check engine light. it wasn't that bad to replace.

TPS? Or IAC?
