Greetings from Southeastern KY. After changing spark plugs(bosch 4's) I started getting this code.....214......the vehicle runs great...after plug change vehicle was getting 22mpg(hiway)the best it's ever gotten (18 -20mpg) Apparently this code indicates some malfunction of the firing system.......I've opened hood at night to see if the plug wires could be bad they are ORIGINAL......but observed no spark jumping......after sitting over night the check engine light goes out, with the engine running continously for several hours b/4 check engine light back comes on.......with getting this good mileage it has to be something minor........I'm considering changing plug wires cause at this point I just don't know what else to do......any suggestions will be greatly appreciated......Thanks Steve

Plug wires usually aren't a cause of a 214 -- EEC-IV computer doesn't really have a way to monitor whether or not the spark actually gets to the cylinder. 214 usually points to a problem in the CKP or CMP, or in the wiring to the ICM or between the ICM and the PCM.

Greetings from Kentucky Mr Shorty......went to the Ford garage.....they informed me that the CYLINDER IDENTIFICATION CIRCUIT was going to fail and to replace this part will cost $550.....$440 for the part.....does this sound believeable????

That sounds believable for the CMP (camshaft position sensor). Others report that it is a fairly pricy unit - especially from the dealer.

Thanks for your reply Mr. Shorty........That's what threw me .....the code..214=CID(Cylinder Identification Sensor)which is Ford's idea of a CMP......NAPA has one for $330......Apparently you need to be a contortionist to install......Thanks Again ...Steve
