few simple questions.....kifts.etc...'98 XLT

i have recently been given a '98 explorer XLT by my parents and want to get into offroading but dont really know where to start and was curious about what is should do first........i want to get a lift for my car but heard they don't make them..... if someone could let me know about this stuff......i'm new to this

Welcome!

How much do you want to lift, what size tires you want to run. You can easily get 2" out of the suspension for $60 with shackles and a torsion bar adjustment. More than that and there's a $500 set of 2wd lift spindles, or $$$ for a 4x4 suspension lift. But there are also 2 and 3" body lifts available.

i want abuot 3 inches and somewhere around 32 or 33 tires if possible

mine is 2wd if that matters

Here's my advice. Take your truck wheeling as is!!! You will be suprised what a stock explorer can do. Once you go wheeling a few times, you will have a feel for what components you really need.

Since it is a 2wd, I would suggest that you get a locker for the back. Powertrac no-slip is supposed to be very good for the price. I prefer an ARB, if you can afford it.
Then like Jason said take it out and try it.

Very good idea. I didn't notice he had a 4x2. Offroading can be done in one but why bother? Unless you feel you have a certain attachment to the truck or something........
