Are there any guidelines for figuring out how much a towed load weights? Specifically, I'm looking at a 20' '89 Sea Ray on a trailer. Sea Ray's website says the dry weight of the boat is 2315. How would I figure out the weight of the trailer (single axle)? I've got a '97 EB 5.0L AWD, so the capacity should be there, I'd just need to figure out what sort of hitch I'd need to do it.

Any class III hitch and you will be fine.

The best way to check a trailer is to weigh it with all of your "stuff" in it.

The 5.0 is a great drivetrain for towing, I'd imagine it will handle it well.

My suggestion on a hitch is get the strongest one you can find, the square or rectangle tubing hitches are generally rated for more. The round ones tend to flex when loaded.
