Finally an Explorer Owner

Been on here because of owning a 2000 Ranger for the past 15 years, but because of our 3rd child on the way we need something bigger than my wifes 2002 Mazda Millenia.

Been looking for the past 2 months, kept expanding my search radius. Searched for a 2013+ limited with 302a and sunroof with less than 15k miles. Lets just say prices were a little high for my tastes. Then Northgate Ford (Cincinnati, OH) posted a 2013 Limited V6 302A with sunroof and tow package with 13,900 miles for 31,800. I offered 30k out the door and they took it. Best deal I could find by searching the whole US.

No wrecks, no title issues. Was a lease vehicle with oil changes at 2000, 7000, and one right before sale.

Flew up to drive it back home (used skymiles I accumulated from my last job).

Car was extremely clean as they detailed it very well. They couldn't find the floor mats after detailing so they gave me a brand new set. Only defects I found were liftgate/bumper scuffs from putting stuff in and out of liftgate (easily buffed out) and paint bubbles on the hood as others have stated. When I got it, the regional ford service rep looked at it and said I can take it to my local dealer when I get back and it will be covered under warranty.

I was really impressed with the gas millage on the highway. From Cincinnati to Nashville I was getting 27 mpg. The image below was after I drove around a while in a parking garage which brought it down some.

Pretty much got 38% off $47,750 MSRP by being 2 years old and having 14k miles. Not too bad.

That's a good deal and the way to go in my book. I got 41% off on a 2.5 year old with twice the miles.

The depreciation on a new car just makes my mind hurt.

The reason I think I got such a good deal was because the only Explorers this dealer sold were AWD ones. Guess nobody in Cincinnati wants a FWD.

Well I didn't get the official paper work. Both oil changes at 2k and 7k were listed on the carfax. The latest one just before I bought it was shown to me when I signed. I asked him to show me the oil change paper work for the last oil change since the oil life was showing 100%. Just wanted to make sure they didn't do a reset without a change. Even had the "next oil change due" sticker in the upper right of the windshield.


The only thing I wished Ford did with this vehicle was add an alarm to the Blind Spot system when there is someone in your blind spot and you turn your signal on. Everything is there just need some programming.

If carinblindspot=1 && turnsignalactive=1, then driveralarm=1.

I was an engineer for Kia and we had this.

Now I'm a engineer for Mercedes and they have this as well as having the steering wheel resist against you turning into the lane.

Maybe those are patented.

Another thing: It has rear sensors across the back and two front ones on the front sides. Why isn't there a front alarm? You could even use the adaptive cruise module/sensor to let you know how close you are to bumping something.

The 2 front sensors are for Active Park Assist which I assume you have. The 2016 has 180 degree front and rear cameras but I don't believe it has front sensors.
