after considering whether or not to lower or lift my 1999 xlt explorer, i decided to lift it.

i want to buy a body lift and shackles and do torsion twists.

I understand the shackles, there pretty self explanatory. but what about torsion bars, i know how they work but i recently read a thread about people swapping out the bolts for 100 mm bolts. does this work, how much lift could i expect without worrie of wearing out my cv joints, and are there any cv joints that i could replace the stock ones with that wont wear out?

The body lift iv read that people have done with the pa-853 kit. would it work on my xlt? how hard is it to make bumper mounts, and are there other things that i need to buy to extend the filler tube for the fuel tank or anything else?

finally, and this has nothing to do with the lift, when i accelerate, i notice between 25-40 mph i have a slight almost squeaky, but sounds kinda like a flutter noise that comes from the engine, my mothers eddie bauer does the same thing, is this anything to worrie about.

Thanks, and keep in mind, ive never worked on any mechanical part of a car before except to change a tire and throttle body, so i apologise for any "obvious" or "what a noob im not gonna reply" kinda questions.

You can only lift it 2"s before you will start to change the angle the cv's work at so much that you'll get abnormal wear. You may not need the longer bolts.

I believe that the 853 kit is correct for the 2nd gens. You can make your bumper brackets easy. Do a search, there is a diagram/schematic with measurements out there for these. Don't know about the extended filler tube, can't remember if dman used one on his when I "helped" him do his (mainly just stood around and did what I do best...look good lol).

thanks for the quick reply, ill prolly buy all the stuff over the next few weeks, maybe ill do a post for my progress, ill try to stretch out the buying of parts over a fair perioud of time that way i could ask for beefy tires for christmass :D.

OOO, and i kno this has been posted before but how hard is it to trim and make it look nice so i can get pretty big tires on there?
