i have been going to different tire shops to see what i get in response to this recall. most firestones seem to have a waiting list, but i walked into a firestone store yesterday and the guy behind the desk says he has the replacements in stock and if i sign now i can have them done first thing in the morning. when asked which tires are they he says "oh I have no idea". huh?!? then he says "well there good tires just blackwall. thats all." So i asked who makes them and he says " i dont know, we got them from a local tire wholesaler, but there free and goin fast so you had better get them done tommorrow". so i asked to see the tires. Courser Radial PT. ever heard of it? was this guy just trying to get the explore owners out of his shop? or are these good tires? i'm no tire guru but i did not like the look of the tire at all, but thats probably because it was blackwall and not a very aggressive tread..what do you guys think? i did find that courser is made by mastercraft, a division of cooper tires, but i still cant find any rating info on this tire...

High would highly recommend that you are getting a comparable tire to what they are replacing. First and foremost, the ATX and Wilderness AT are All-Terrain tires. You should be getting an All-Terrain tire in return. An All-Terrain tire has a deeper and more aggressive tread design to handle mud, snow, water, etc. These tires tend(but not always) to cost more than standard road or "all weather" tires. I believe (but am not 100% certain) that for stability and traction reasons, Ford recommends an All-Terrain tire for the Ford Explorer.
