hi, v6 93 ex, 4.0 2wd automatic tranny

i just spent 2,000 last week on a rebuilt tranny, they say they installed a "shift kit" and new solenoids and clutches

what happend was my mass air flow shorted out and it screwed up my tranny since its electronically controlled, i heared a loud clank when it happened and BAD rumbleling from 0-15 mph...it also started about 3 months ago when i cleaned for the first time my maf sensor and the harness and i forgot to unplug battery and might have shorted something...it ran with a loud roar every time you excelerated

well, they say they installed a new pcm computer saying my old one shorted out, installed a new maf, and rebuilt tranny

from 30-80 mph it runs great

but from 0-20 its slow as hell , i mean real slow, the guy even test drove it with me and i asked him why its doing this and he says its the passing gear and downshift and its normal for the shift kit

heres what it does, when your at 0mph and hit the gas , it takes about 1 second to go, usually it would go automatically when you hit the gas

at 15mph, and holding the pedal steady at 1500 rpm, the rpms jump drastically on its own to 2500 without increasing pedal and it does this before it shifts into 2nd gear...once it shifts into 2nd gear the rpms go back down to 1500.....he says this is normal????.and btw, it STILL roars !!!!

what is this? is this a slow oem mass air flow sensor he installed? the new pcm? or a bad first gear?

its automatic tranny

i dont know much about trannys, there are no hold shifts, or noises, this is the only problem

it also seems to do this a little bit when it shifts into every gear but the first-second shift i notice it alot because the engine roars real loud when it does this shift

ive had the car for 10 years, i rebuilt the tranny 5 years ago and it didnt do this...usually it shifted quietly and smoothy without even noticing

should i switch to my old granatelli hi flow maf? should i install 373 gear differential or is this the tranny?

even though its on warranty he WONT look at it...hes a dick, he swears its normal, but it sounds bad...sometimes it will do this and not even go into second gear unless i gun the trottle

now, if i excelerate hard,at around 2000 rpm, it shifts into 2nd gear smoothly without this problem, but when i hold it steady at 1500 it will jump on its own to 2500 in order to switch to 2nd gear.....what is this?

im thinking about taking it to another tranny shop and rebuild it again for 2000? should i?

Sounds like the tranny shop dicked something up. I would go to them and ask for a refund cause they didn't fix it. You could buy a BRAND spankin new tranny for $2,000. Take the $2,000 spend $250 for a quality used trans from your local junkyard, heck pay them another $250 and they just might mount it for you. Then take the remaining $1,500 and put it back in the bank.

The problem wasn't there before they repaired the tranny so why should it have magically broke while they repaired it?

No, that's not normal, it's "slipping" going into 2nd, a shift kit will make this shift "harder" or more "solid" and quicker, not longer and slip the clutches.

He's messed up and doesn't want to own up to his mistakes. I would MAKE him fix it right if it's covered. I WOULD go to a second shop to get a second opinion, then if that doesn't get him off his a$$ there is small claims court.

And just FYI, I've never heard of a MAF sensor frying a tranny, all the computer really controls on these are the overdrive/converter lockup. I don't even think the PCM could fry the tranny. I could see a MAF maybe frying a PCM, or vice versa.... but not the tranny.

If I were you I would get that second opinion, followed shortly by a lawyer. :)

I've never heard of a MAF sensor frying a PCM and I've seen tons of trucks that took water in thru the intake. I agree with doonze, this guy took you for one hellova ride.

I wouldn't let him touch it again, take it to another shop and DEMAND your money back. Contact your local licensing office and file a complaint, as well as the BBB and definately consult a lawyer. If you take him to court and he loses he will be liable for up to 3 times the total dollar figure you paid. If he refuses to pay the court they will put a lien on his business.

Also, for $2k you could just about take the truck to the dealer and get new OEM Tranny installed.

what they said.

start documenting ASAP. Get second opinion in writting.

Sue for recovery.
