I wish to hear from those who have done a 5.0 engine swap. Im curious as to where they located their engine computer. Ideally I would like to cut out a slot in the firewall where it is located in the second generation Explorer. Has anyone done this?

Yep...I did that exact thing....

Ah, thought it was you. Do you have any pics? I want to make sure I don't somehow cut into something I shouldn't in the dash.

Use the Hood Hinge, and the square-ish access hole next to the ECM mount as reference points, as that part is still 1st Gen. Do not pay any attention to the lower part, or try to reference it from the HVAC holes, it won't work for you, as that is a 2nd Gen firewall welded in.

Thanks for the pictures! Did you have the first generation dash installed at the time the pics were taken?

No, there was no dash installed at all. But there would be no interference with the 1st Gen dash. That part of the dash is totally hollow.

Thanks so much. Time to get the sawzall out.

Ryan, Did you figure out how to incorporate RABS into your 97 wiring harness? Kory

Nope....I have all the 4WABS stuff installed EXCEPT the front sensors. I need to come up with an 'exciter ring' to go on my hubs to activate the sensors when needed.

This is NOT a job for a sawzall....

A cut off wheel on a grinder, or an air powered unit is probably best.
