I'm having the same issue... my AC light comes on red too I thought it should be Green if all is well?

Ive briefly looked for the condenser, to see if it's rusted out, like mentioned in other posts about AC but mine is not located in the back passenger side of the engine bay...

Is that true? I thought the light was just an incandescent bulb so its only one color. mine is red too, and it doesnt work so maybe it is supposed to be green?

if you have a first gen, chances are it needs to be converted over to R-134a, since i dont beleive most places will recharge an R-12 system.

I don't know, I'd just never seen a red led for an AC system before and assumed they used a dual color one, that glows red if there is a problem... I figured that made sense as the rest of the interior pannel lights are green.

I think my system is already 134a, thats what the tag on some of the piping says anyway... I should get it checked out tomorrow I guess, I'm bringing it in to get all my fluid systems flushed and changed

I just had mine fixed, the seals were bad, $300 for all seals and freon. The light glows red but it does get cool.

The light is just a bulb, not a dual color led. Depending on what is wrong it can go either way with repair. A recharge of r-12 is feasable if the system is not losing freon and just needs to be topped off. If the system needs to be opened up then R-12 is not feasable at $90+ per pound. I am having a shop convert my 92 and with new barrier hoses and o-rings the bill will be about $325.

Three out of three that iv had were red. I took the unit apart when I removed the dash and all I saw was a simple wireling plan. No sight of two bulbs for muti bulb colors.

1st Gen.a/c

Ford switched over to the new refrigerant in 1993, about mid-year according to a Master Tech I know. There will be a tag on one of the lines to tell what kind is in your vehicle.

Another easy clue is the connectors. If they are threaded, it's R-12. if it looks like a connector for an air hose, and lacks external threads, it's 134a.

i know on my brother's 94XLT its very clearly labeled "R-134a refriegerant" on the condensor's heat shield.
