2010 Escape XLT
Very shortly I am purchasing a 2010 Ford Escape XLT. There was a problem with the rear hatch actuator which is a known problem with this vehicle. There are many solutions posted online including a YouTube video on how to replace the actuator. It is also suggested that you replace the rubber gasket surrounding the window since it has been improved. This is a job that can be done by a newbie as the video is very explicit and detailed.

I am purchasing this car from a neighbor because it is the right size to take my two Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs out for a ride from time to time. The back seat of my 2013 Buick Verano turbo is just not doing the job because they like to stretch out so that means one is stretched out and the other is squeezed into the corner. :D

I hope this Forum is as active and helpful as the GM forums have been to me over the years.

Just wondering- registration said I did not have to have an Explorer to post here, but I'm wondering if there is a separate Ford Escape forum that I should be signed into instead of this one? Can someone please direct me? Thank you

Welcome from Costa Mesa California!

Thank you. All these forums are really dead compared to the GM ones that I frequent from time to time. I did find the Escape forum here, but it's quiet too. I found some other Escape forums, but they are just as dead. I get faster info by Googling Escape info. Oh well. So far I have found answers to my questions in YouTube and Google.

One issue that I still have with the Escape is the rear hatch window is LEAKING! The actuator was already replaced a few weeks ago. I put fresh "caulk" around the window moulding and thought that would do the trick, but we had some rain a few days ago and a towel I placed back there was wet. Before that, I thought all seemed well because the moulding is not ripped or anything, but when I went to the high pressure touchless car wash, the water flowed in like Niagara Falls! I had to jump into the back to put towels there! The water was coming in right where the back wiper motor is. I guess I will have to give in and see if the dealer has a permanent solution. I don't know if the moulding has been replaced back there and if it is the "new and improved" version. I'm sure that will be hundreds, but what can I do?

Pull the molding and inspect the sheet metal it attaches to. If it is rusted under there thats probably were the leak is coming from. This happened to me were the molding looked new but the sheet metal under it was corroded and leaked bad.

Thank you. I pulled a lot of the upper moulding down so I could put a good amount of caulk, but first I cleaned it real good. The sheet metal looked fine. I didn't see any rust. I understand that there is an "improved" rubber seal. The dealer will know if this is the original or not. I'm almost thinking of putting some weatherstripping all across the top to see if that would eliminate the leak before having the dealer or maybe even a glass company replace it. I might experiment a little before spending hundreds. Thanks again.

Welcome.
