My ’09 Explorer V6 transmission was rebuilt around 59K due to missing 2nd gear (so much for the service not needed until 125K miles). Rebuilt at Ford dealer under powertrain warranty. The truck now has 72k miles on it. Works fine. Truck mainly use to haul kids to school and transporting stuff from local hardware store for home repair. No towing. Question: when should I do the first transmission fluid drain service after the rebuild (was told that the power flushing is not good for the trany)? Every 15K miles or 30k miles? Should I follow the old school approach of change the fluid after the rebuild to remove any possible debris?
Plan to drive the truck across the country this summer to move the family and want to make sure I cover the necessary service before the trip. Thanks for the advice!
