Has anybody fitted a top box to an explorer? any advice or anybody know of a fitting kit.

Using the standard roof bars will make it quite high and I'm trying to keep it below 2.2 meters for the channel ferry this summer.

cheers

Jim

Kev, Is that Box mounted on the standard roof bars? (I took mine off and they snapped at the ends with age! - I'm dubious to mount a bike rack on another 2nd hand set!)

Hi bubble.
Its mounted on 'THULE' roof bars.
I then shaped some Landrover suspension stops that rest on the Ex's roof bars just for extra support. [ I always over do it for safety]

With the box being narrow, there was room each side for a THULE bike carrier.
Its amazing what you can get in that box. I bought it for a trip to Scotland and got 2 sets of golf clubs and 2 sets of fishing equipment.

Thule aint cheap, but very good quality and everything locks on to the bars and then to the roof channels.

Kev.

Cheers Kev, I think i'll be heading for the Thule bars, box and cycle carriers myself later on in the year for the annual drive to France (Our 12month old has more luggage than us!!)
