problems with clutch

okay 3 months ago tranny goes out, go and get a rebuilt one, put that in...clutch was replaced only a few months erlier(according to pervious owner) so didnt replace it was i down there, clutch goes out like 3 months later, was going go with centerforce kit but to expensive ending up just gettign a regular one, replaced everything a resurfaced flywheel, etc....1 month later i cant get it into 1st when it was really cold, i thought i mgiht let it sit for awhile to warm up hoping that the tranny wasnt cold...still wouldnt go in so i basically shoved it into 1st cuz i had finals at school and didnt have time for bs and just got it to school some how, it was really hard to shift but it didnt have to big of a rpob in 2-5 but 1st and reservese was just rediculos, after school noticed small puddle under there and knew something was wrong, drove it home and parked in garage open cltuch resivor put some in there and refill to fluid was overflowing in tranny, thought that may be it, drove it to friends not to far away and parked it drove iwht him, went back to my car and the clutch is kinda of floppy at first and doing same thing, shoved it in first and parked it at home, dad bleed the clutch resovier and still nuttin, i still noticed small puddle, is it my slave clyndier, i was hoping not to drop the tranny, does anybody know what it possible is, im starting to hate having an explorer for 1st car with 180k

that's one long sentence!

lol i just noticed that, i guess i was just tryign to get it all out,.......... i havbe read josh's thread but the oil leaking is not coming out between the motor and tranny i guess ill pull the inspection cover off and see whats up, and also now theres 0 pressure in the clutch so im guessign it needs rebleed really bad? i think the old man doesnt know what his doing

Most 12 year old vehicles with 180k miles need a little more fixing than a newer vehicle.

With 180,000 mi. I don't know what the hell you're complaining about? How would you like to have a '98 X that you've had the engine and tranny replaced and other parts too numerous to mention? When you buy used, you have to expect to do some repairs! Unless you bought it from the original owner and he had documentation to prove he or she had it serviced regularly, you probably bought a piece of sh*t. So, either grin and bear with it ,like I do or shut up!

My explorer with 170k on it had almost the same problems you are having, which ended up being the slave cylinder going out. You should also check and see if your slave was replaced when you had your trans rebuilt. If anything take your Explorer to a good trans shop and let them look it over and possibly take care of it for you. You might also get a limited warranty on whatever work they do, which will help prevent future headaches if the problem happens again while it is covered.

That is exactly like mine... it is the rear main seal where the oil is leaking. Its more common for 1st gen X's

hey now... everyone gets mad when stuff on their X breaks. It might be a 180k on the truck, but I bet he has only had it for < 30k of that. It might be old, but still relatively new to him. Let him vent =P

Hokie

Or Hydroxy or whoever you really are. He is right. Let him vent. Besides, use synthetics from the beginning and well 180k is not even broke in yet. So yeah, if my ex breaks down in a serious way before 600k I am going to be seriously pissed. Serious break down being any internal engine components, or tranny or internal axle diff.

Hookie

I love the photo man. YOu look like your GF just lifted up her top for the fist time or something or for that matter like any girl lifted her top for the fist time for you man.

haha... I am hydroxy... hokie goes to tech w/ me. He was pretty gone that night... and he crashed really hard the next day. =P

Synthetic oils aren't the fountain of youth. I don't care what kind of oil you are running, anything is far broken in by 180K. And expecting to run 600K on any vehicle without major repairs is foolish. Especially on a Ford Explorer.

Well

Someone uses Pennzoil. Yeah, I made that mistake before too.

you could get 600k... you might have to floor it to go 20mph because your valve rings are non-existant... but you could do it =P

Yeah...I have a '91 X that I got last December. It has 160K on it. Stuff happens with a car that old, but whoever had mine before me kept it serviced. Still, no matter what happens, stuff goes out on and vehicle. Sometimes you have just as many problems on a new car as you do on an old car. It's all about the way you drive your vehicle and whether you think enough to chekc things regularly. Don't wait until something goes wrong to look around your vehicle. I have this thing where I spend all day every sunday cleaning my X and after I clean it I look it over and check stuff out. If something looks fishy, I check it out and see whats up. That is how you keep 'em runnin' good. Sometime within the next year or two, I am dropping a 305 in it..so that is gonna be pretty tight. Basicly, what I am saying is that you need to check out your X regularly and make sure stuff is up to par.

Sounds like

Sounds like you worship your Ex.
