Fixing Cigarette lighter

My cigarette lighter doesnt work anymore and i dont know why. How would I go about fixing it? what would I check to see whats wrong? thanks.

They burn out. Just go to the autoparts store and buy a new one just the part that heats up not the whole assembly. Bring in the old one to compare.

The lighter itself does not work? They fill with ash, and stop working...
