A couple of weeks ago my "tire sensor fault light" came on and I had my tires checked and they are all fine. They said the one of them probably needs to be replaced but not to worry about it because it’s not that big of a deal, so I just reset the message every day. Lately I have noticed around 55mpg there is a little bit of a chug while increasing speed. Last night when I was getting over that little chug at 55mph my engine light came on and was flashing. I immediately got off the freeway and checked under the hood. Everything is fine, the temp is normal no leaking, no funny smells and everything is fine. The light has not come back on since then but I am curious if it is tied to the tire sensor or if this could be a whole different issue.

I drive a 06' Explorer V8.

Let me know if you need any more information!

I had the "tire sensor fault light" come on, on my 06' as well. Turned out to be a dead battery in one of the sensors. I never had an issue with power and engine lights though while the fault lights was on.

On another note I had my TPS go bad before and it put the engine into failsafe mode, it started with a chugging and then it started getting worst. I noticed that my idle was 500RPM higher then normal and then it got so bad that the engine wouldn't rev over 1000RPM. So my guess is that they are completely unrelated, and the chugging is a TPS issue.

It started happening about once/week and then it got to be 3-4 times/day. to fix it all I would do is turn the car off then back on.

the tpms light should not affect engine performance. since you have a v8 and a chug at 55mph I would guess it may be a ignition coil or plug going bad. that will cause the flashing engine light and it should store a code the dealer can read.

I'll second that TPMS has nothing to do with the MIL (check engine light). One important note is that if the light is flashing it indicates a serious misfire and will likely damage the catalytic converter due to raw fuel being sent through the exhaust.

I asked this question earlier. If it only happens when you're accelerating, going uphill, pulling a load, etc, I was lead to a misfire and likely plug/coil issues.

Have the codes read and go from there, that will narrow it down.
