I am considering buying a 91 Navajo with elec T case for towing behind a motorhome, how do you get it into neutral (can it be done?) years ago when I worked at a Ford dealer I thought they sold a kit with a switch for doing that, and if it can be put into neutral will it be ok for towing long distance.

I did a search both on the web and this site before I asked, this forum seems to have a alot of experienced members, hopefully somebody knows this one.
Thanks, 1st time poster here.

Well, I can tell you for sure the Transfer case on the electric shift motor models doesn't have a N setting on the case. It has 2H, 4H and 4L marked on the case. But no N. If there is a neutral setting it's an unmarked setting somewhere in between and the only way I could see getting it there would be to remove the shift motor and get after it with some vise grips.

The manual shift ones DO have a natural setting, but from what I gather it's a different transfer case too..

There is a neutral tow kit, however it may be hard to get them still. You might be able to get one at a dealer still, I don't know.

However, if you remove the shift motor you can turn the little thing the motor turns manually with pliers into N. it is marked on there, the neutral is between 4H and 4L, just as with a manual case. Put it right between those two and it should be fine.

This will be fine for flat towing, and the preferred way to do it. Your other option is to remove the rear drive shaft. And for education sake, the manual and electric transfer cases on first gens are both BW 1354, just with different shifting mechanisms.

I can tell you 100% is not marked on my 93 either, I just had it off 2 weeks ago. But if there is a kit for it it might HAVE a Neutral, just not marked because stock you can't select it....*shrug*
