What would cause the upper radiator hose to flatten out while the engine is running and its up to operating temperaturre? I am also not getting much heat out of the heater. The thermostat was replaced about a year ago, and its full of coolant. The engine doesnt seem to run hot according the the temperature gauge. Very strange, thanks in advance..

You need a new hose, its flat because its colapsed. The coolant will not be able to properly flow and cool the engine enough.

You should also check (or just replace) the radiator cap. It should open up internally when the engine causes a vacuum in the cooling system and draw spare coolant from the coolant recovery tank. That is why the little rubber hose runs from the radiator cap neck the the coolant recovery tank.
