Which should I get for my 5.0L?? the 50 series with the single 3" outlet or the dual 2 1/4" outlet?? I assume it would cost more to get the two tailpipes made over a single one, but which one would be better for performance and more importantly, sound (the louder, the better!!)?? Each muffler is listed for $90 from Jegs, and they are under the Street Mufflers section, not the Delta Flow. Any advice is appretiated!!

i would imagine the dual setup would be louder. i have the 50 series on my 4.0 w/ a 2 1/4'' out and its rather loud now so i say hey go for the duals. it will look better too!

Nothing less than duals on a V8, it looks better and will sound deeper. Also check into Magnaflows their a little quiter but have a mean exotic rumble on 5.0's and 4.6's, theres another company CGS Exhaust, check out their site, they have a clip of I think a Dakota and man does it sound awesome.

If louder is better then why not get a 40 series? They are cheaper than the 50's and will give you a lot more sound.

True. Get 2 of them with an X pipe. :)

Yeh if you want louder get the 40's you won't be dissapointed on a V8.

I was wondering about this and also some somepeople do it. What kind of x-pipe do you use on an X, do the ones for themustang fit? Because with every body saying they want to sound like a mustang thats as close as you'll get, x-pipe with flows or magnaflow.

I dont know if one from a stang will work. I think the pipes in a stang are further apart. If you are having a shop custom bend all the pipes, I'm sure they could make an X-pipe. Or I'm sure they know of one that they could use for an explorer application.

I'm definetley going to look into that when I get my 4.6 02' Mounty. I know there was someone on here that did it because I saw their Ex on cardomain and it had an x-pipe w/ pictures and everything, I just can't remember who it was. I look a again when I get the 02' but I looked under one quickly at the dealership and theirs more room underneath w/ more free space than my moms 2nd gen, I don't know why the 2nd gen is so cramped underneath. Just about every damn shop won't do duals even though theres a sh!tload of people on here that have done it. But when I get the mounty if I can do it, I'll go with an x-pipe and dual magnaflows (sweeeeeet:cool: )

Anyone know of a good dual inlet single out let for a sohc. I dont want to do duals anymore b/c the cost is through the roof. I wanted flowmaster 40 Series but I can't find a dual in single out. I am looking for htat sound. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I found it in the 50 series SUV performance...
Dual 2.25” in/Single 3.00” out - Part# 524553

The SUV performance mufflers have all the uncommon setups. Mine is a SUV muffler, dual in/dual out, and it sounds great.

alright thanks I might have to go with that although I really wanted that 40 series. We'll see what happens, thanks again

piggy backing on this thread, I have a Flowmaster 50 series on my 93' has a good low rumble but not real noticable, will it get louder w/ age? Definitly helped w/ the performance and gas milage tho

After 7 months of having mine on there it has gotten much louder. After its been running for about 10 minutes it sounds really good. When the pipes are cold it doesnt sound good.

3in vs 2 1/4

just an fyi; for performance, the single 3" exhaust system will flow more than two 2 1/4 in exhausts. this is a volume fact. as for looks and sound, the two is the way to go.

A 3" will only flow a little better, but it's not even noticable. Any vehicle that has a V8 IMHO has to have duals mandatory. It just fits right on a V8. Theres a kid around here with a Mountaineer fully modified with Steeda parts, looks pretty nice, but he has a single exit, sounds good, but it would look a hell of a lot better with duals. Think about this, do you think anyone will modify a mustang and add a single exit exhaust, now that would look funny as hell no matter how good it sounds. I do remember one freak of nature, ever remember a couple of years ago when Chevy' decided to have a single exhaust on the Z28 SS! Maybe thats why they lost customers, that was in insult to every V8 car. I say duals no matter what, it just makes Explorers or any other vehicle look a hell of a lot more aggresive and they will normally will sound better/throatier. I have a 40series (finaly found the recept from 4yrs ago when I 1st got the truck) and my friends 94 has dual exhaust with a 40 series and it definetley sounds better and throatier. On a V8 I would get two 40 series flowmasters and have them make a catback using the dual mufflers. At least thats what I'm gonna do with the 02' 4.6 Mounty when I get it in about a month, the day I get it, duals are going on baby:D . Except I'm most likley doing to use 2 Magnaflow mufflers which sound really sweet on the 4.6, or I'm thinking about using 2 Magnaflow Magnapack mufflers that would scare the hell outta anyone I'm next to.

Mustangs are designed to have dual exhaust... Explorers are not. Its easy to run duals on a mustang because there is room to make the systems have the same length. In an explorer, you have to route the pipes around the gas tank which makes the drivers side much longer. You could put an X pipe in and that will solve part of the issue or you could put on a large dia. single exhaust and forget about the issue.
