Hey all

my problem is my gas gauge will go from 3/4 to the red on e just like that and all of a sudden its a half tank it will move all around and stay where it moves for a while then move again it doesn't seem to do this anymore just one night it did it but my gas mileage has been off but this shouldn't effect gas mileage i dont think anyone know what caused it to happen?

I've had the same situation with my gas gauge. I just got my Explorer about 3mos ago. I really didn't think it was a common occurance with these vehicles. I ran the diagnostic and it found nothing. Let me know if you figure out what's going on Dead Link Removed

I have the same problem with my 92 EB. I got it back in Feb and ever since then it can be dead on E and if you take a sharp turn itll give ya 1/2-full tank. SOmetimes it settles to normal sometimes it wont until it has sat overnite. Its not really a big issue but if anybody figures it out let me know!

My 92 Explorer's gas gauge went from normal to showing empty all the time. Inside the tank is a brass egg that floats and moves an arm up and down depending on how much fuel is in the tank. The arm is steel and it corroded a pin hole in the brass egg. When I had it apart the egg would float in water but not quite in gas. When shaking the egg you could hear gasoline inside it. Sounds like your float is about to sink comepletly. Taking the tank off isn't too bad but unhooking the fuel lines is a real treat. You'll need a special tool. The auto parts guy should be able to help.
