The AC pump keeps kicking on and off which kicks the ide up from 500 to 800RPM or so. This doesn't seem right to me. Any idea's

Your either have too little or too much refrigerant or the pressure sensor is bad. Most likely it's the first of the three. You can charge it yourself with the right tools or have a shop do it. In the time being, you can keep the selector on the under-dash vents which will prevent the compressor from coming on entirely.

Good luck.

Jason is right on the money on this one. I had too little pressure and I filled it and it was good for about 2 months and then I had to replace the accululator which was the cause of a very slow leak.
