I have a '00 8.8 w/ 3.73's and a LS with about 23k. This is temporary untill I regear and put a Detroit locker in there, I am about to change the oil in it, I have some friction modifier that's made by Dana and was going to use Dead Link Removed , I do some pretty hard off roading 2-3 a month, what is the best mix ratio for the friction modifier & gear lube? What is the fluid capacity for the diff.? Thanks!!

By the way this is in a '88 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0L I-6

Fill the diff up to the bottom of the "fill hole". It's about 3 quarts or so. I think about 6-8 oz of friction modifier is correct (Two small bottles from the Ford dealer). However, this is with the Ford friction modifier...the ratio may be different with the brand name that you are using. Check the label.

Check your manual, I found that mine, now that it has 3.73's uses synthetic 75W140
There is a footnote in the manual that states that Explorer's with 3.73 or 4.10 require 75W140.

FWIW, the 8.8 in my Ranger came with 3.73 and LS, and now it has 4.56 and a different LS. The manual says 80W90 with a bottle of Ford friction modifier ( I think it's a 6oz bottle), and that's what I still use, with zero problems.

The Haynes says 4 oz of friction modifier, but what do I know...I just read this stuff...LOL.

Yeah, that sounds right. I just remember a tiny bottle and guessed at the amount.
