Howdy.
I'm a Mercury man from Cleveland - got a Grand Marquis and a Marauder as my regular drivers.
Anyway, I just sold a '94 Caprice wagon that my band was using as a gear hauler. It was a wee bit too small for all of our gear plus us, so we decided to get a van. Our price range was pretty much $0.99, but I found this one on Craigslist for $950 and decided to see what it was all about.
It's a '94 Eddie Bauer Aerostar with the 4.0. 170k claimed miles, but the original (and malfunctioning) digital dash was replaced with a higher-mileage (yet still functioning) one. Almost everything works. The two major inop features are the tape player, and the fact that it only blows heat and (cold) A/C through the defrost and rear vents. It was a Florida vehicle and undercoated when new, so it's pretty much rock solid underneath with only minor rust on the body. I need to source a pair of 14" Ranger aluminum wheels so I have a matched set all the way around.
The biggest issue is that the guy hauled around two dogs in it, and as such, he cut out two small vents in the liftgate and added very heavy wire mesh for ventilation. There is a heavy rubber flap that lays over the vents to keep the weather out, but since it'll be hauling amps around, I want to make it more secure. I will probably remove the mesh and replace with sheetmetal, and weld it in...unless I can find a blue liftgate to toss on there.
All in all, though, I think I did well at the final purchase price of $600.
I'm picking it up Monday night and doing the title transfer Tuesday.
