- 1998 Explorer 5,0 XLT 2wd
New guy here, traded my 98 nissan hard body pickup to a guy for a 1998 explorer 5.0 2wd, couldn't have been a better decision, I love this thing, every time I drive it its like putting on a nice perfectly worn pair of jeans, or work gloves, it just fits and drives so great, It had new shocks(Cheapest ones you can buy, chinese sensen silvers you can buy for like 15 bucks a shock) I should know I installed a set on the truck I traded,,lol decent shocks but they are stiff, and come in a cardboard box that just says "Shock absorber" it was like something out of a cartoon ..lol. New tires, walmart specials but they where new. I had to install 2 new rear axles and wheel bearings, my buddy had a ford Motorsports finned aluminum diff cover laying around so i installed that on reassembly, and changed the engine oil, had to remove all the seats and remove the carpet and pressure wash it, it was sooo nasty , and swapped the passenger seat bottom and cover to the drives side and vice versa . Drove it down to my hometown of southport 4 hours away the other week and got 20 mpg doing 70 with the cruise and A/C basting, Ohh and I rebuilt the A/C compressor . got a couple of vids about the compressor on my youtube channel i will link below. fixing to do the timing cover gasket and t chain this coming week.
