Hi everyone hope you are all ok.
I have a 99 explorer in the uk and the fog lights dont work.
I checked the forum and some people are saying they are not fog lights but go on with the standard lights. Mine dont and the bulbs are ok. I cant find any switches for them so am completely lost as to how to make the lights glow bright.
Many thanks in advance:exp:

If they came from the factory, the fog light switch is on the right side of the stereo surround. It's below the rear wiper knob and rear defrost button. You can see it in this picture:

If you do not have that button, then you likely have an aftermarket set installed. To find out how to turn them on, you will need to trace the wiring back and see what it's connected to.

Hi Thanks I do have this button but this operates my rear fogs. Am I right in saying this button will operate both front and back at the same time
Regards :salute:

Ooooh, I forgot that yours would be a Euro-spec Explorer.... I can't say for sure since I don't have any schematics for the export-trucks, but I would think that the rear fog light would come on with the front fogs, wouldn't it? I would think that's the standard.... I wouldn't think that the rear fog light would come on from a different switch since the two would be used together, wouldn't they? (What makes sense to me doesn't always happen in the real world)

I'd start by checking the fuses for the fog lights, and checking for power at the connector on the fog light. If you have power but they don't light up, it could be a bad ground connection too... Without being able to poke and prod, it's a little tough to help much more than this....

Many Thanks Joe
Will keep you updated when i have had a " poke around"
 :exp:

What the ????? REAR fog light??

I gotta get out more.....

Hi cobraguy
Yes!!!!! rear fog lights unfortunately the good old british law says you cant have enough lights ha ha.

What the ????? REAR fog light??

Indeed, the European spec vehicles throughout Europe require a rear fog light that comes on with the lower front fog lights. It's a high intensity red bulb on the rear of the vehicle. Many new Volvos (among others) have them state-side (and they're annoying as hell following one in the rain before the sun comes up!!)

IIRC, they're required to be used anytime the weather is inclement... as if you don't notice that two-ton hunk of steel hurtling down the road in front of you at 70 mph...

hmmm... I wonder if it's possible to add that feature to a US Explorer. Some import vehicles come with that as an option in the US.

If the rear light comes on when the button for the fronts are pressed, and the fronts aren't coming on, then maybe the front and rear are on different fuses or relays and one is blown.

This could also be the problem however my owner manual fuse and relay information does not tally up with whats on my car. I have checked all my fuses, and one had blown (i got very excited at this, only to find my passenger side 12v supply now works) Onwards and upwards we go.

Just as a side thread just had my EX lpg converted, what a breath of fresh air that was soooooooooooo cheap :D and I have to say an absolute first class install
