I noted last night that the temp gauge was up a bit past the NORMAL (L)---when I turned the key OFF then back on, it sat where it should be. Slightly below the (R).

Ground? Cluster going south? The engine is running where it should be in and about 193.

Sending unit

Sending unit
just changed it two days ago, let me check the connection
I showed correct before I put the new sending unit on it, I am seriously thinking of converting it to a mechanic gauge

New doesn't mean good

when the engine cools down a tad I am putting in a NAPA bought vs O'Reilly brand

CORRECT Diagnoses sir! Back to normal readings. New NAPA rather than the other crapola

:salute:

Yeah, I just had a nasty experience with O'Reilly on their store brand brake parts. Too long to tell here... ok, you get what you pay for when you go with cheap parts, I get that, but their customer service on dealing with defective parts was appalling. NAPA is another 5 miles out, but at least they are professional about their work.

Anyway... if someone comes on this thread with a similar problem:
The temp gauge sender is near the thermostat housing, and has a single peg connector. There is a second temp sender for the computer with a plastic connector, but the gauge uses the one by the thermostat. If you have a multi-meter, the sender will be around 74 ohms cold, and 9.7 ohms hot.

its easy to get out but rather ****ty trying to get it back in, I used a deep 11/16 socket, I stuffed some crap in the socket to hold the sending unit, so I could aim it downward without it falling out. It was sorta an aim and miss until it threaded in. For a moment I thought it would cross thread.

The old girl still keeps running and running. While I have misfire--not at cold not at hot but at med-warm after sitting for a 1/2 hour that so far has stumped me. I am thinking the EGR is hanging open.

Bring the r's up to 1500 for 10-15 seconds then you see the tach jump to 2000 you know whatever it is just cleared.

I'm thinking an injector or the EGR--some sensor, you can feel the engine misfire for 20 seconds at 1500 then it jumps to 2000- It's then good to go. Only started recently. Not cold, Not hot. Only after sitting for 1/2 hour.
