I'm learning more and more about turbos and superchargers, and I'm planning on doing one of those to mine, just not sure which. So I'm developing a plan of attack for both ways, I figure I'll be covered no matter which route I go, and I learn at the same time.

I don't see it listed many places, so that's why I'm creating this thread.

I'd like to find out what the gas mileage of your Explorers are that are forced induction. If you could, please list:
1. Year of Explorer
2. Engine in your Explorer.
3. Type of setup (turbo or supercharge), also if turbo how close to the engine
4. Current pressure being run. Like 5psi, 10psi.
5. Octane gas used
6. Gas mileage, city/highway if possible.
7. Anything else you'd like to list... anything at all.

Thank you for your input if you decide to post. Mods, feel free to move if this is in the wrong place.

Ass.

1998 Explorer Sport
4.0L sohc
remote turbo
on 93 octane average 18-19 mpg
on E85 average 15mpg

bump for more information.

i'd really like to get some numbers from OHV engines. but either engine is fine.

With all the $$ you're going to spend setting up this turbo and getting the vehicle tuned, I'm not sure 3 or 5 mpg will make much of a difference ;). You'd probably be happy just to get it boosting to your expectations w/o destroying the block. I think you have a dozen other things (mostly the the technical stuff) to worry about than 3 or 5 MPG.

I get around 18 that I know of. This is mixed highway and city. I have yet to go thru a fuel tank without hitting the boost atleast 3-4 times so MAYBE the numbers are higher than this.

1) 2001
2) 4.0 SOHC
3) Turbo at the end of the y-pipe. (3-4 feet from the engine)
4) 93
5) city/highway mix - 18 MPG
6) 0-60 in 5 seconds spinning thru first ;) 42LB / hr injectors

Oh, and my X makes noises that really annoy me. You know, clunk clatter clatter clunk.

1] 2000
2] 5.0
3] Remote turbo
4] 9psi.
5] 91 and 93
6] Average 20mpg city/hwy- better if I watch the boost gauge...
7] major turbo system upgrade underway...
