Good job.

3rd row seating is weak. I am very glad I don't have it.

I only have the two row XLT and I am very happy with it. On the newer explorers ther is a huge under floor storage area where the third row seat would be. I like not having the extra seats, i would never use them, my family isn't large enough to need 7 seats, 5 does the job just fine.

I have the 3rd row on my 04 XLT and really like it. My family right now is only 3, but having the option to fit up to 7 is nice for us right now because we spend time with other families, and going to the park in one vehicle is much nicer then having to take two. Plus, if we go visit my parents, we can take one vehicle to dinner...or we can take my wife's cousins (just slightly older then my daughter) with us to do whatever.

When my 3rd row is folded down, I have a storage area under the seat. It's not large, but I had two adult and one child's camp chair stored in the space with room to spare. My only complaint about the 3rd row is when it is in use, there is limited space in the cargo area. My small footlocker style plastic box that I usually carry in my cargo area doesn't fit with the 3rd row up...it has emergency type stuff in it (spare jacket for me, emergency blanket, jumper cables, small chain & shackle, recovery strap) and a hard hat (working contract security and occasionally being posted on a restricted construction site it is nice to have your own). I have a separate first aid/medic bag, so I always have that as it fits comfortably behind the seat, but I loose the space for all of my other gear.

well i actually want to get rid of it because i can no longer use it...i installed a stealthbox in my ex and the third row doesnt fold up...stealthbox sticks out a 1/2 in and hits the third row....i actually loved the third row...just like helmsa i used it quite a bit especially to pack into 1 car instead of 2....but i had to choose between the box and my third row i went with the stealthbox just because i love not having a sub box in the middle of the cargo area...

I think that it is interesting that your 3rd row wont go up because the picture that is shown on JL Audio's webpage shows it installed on an X with the 3rd row. I was lucky enough to find an X with the factory subwoofer.

it actually states that its only for the ex without the 3rd row...the part of the box that sticks out in the ported part and it the 3rd row hits that...ah its ok im happy with my car system....you have to sacrifice sometimes

I have the third row and it's fantastic.. I'm a 6 foot 300lb guy and it can sit back there super comfortably.. It really comes in handy when you gotta use your explorer as a people mover.. Then they fold right down and they're gone... The only downside I can see is that they cause a bit of an incline for the trunk area, but it's really never been an issue..

I love not having it, especially with gas prices, I'm not the taxi or the DD whenever we go out :)

I don't buy it when people say they are glad they don't have it.. It's a positive feature to have, why would you be glad you lacked a positive feature in your car? I also don't buy it when people say they are glad they don't have the V8, because of gas mileage, because the difference is negligible and you get a lot more power.. Both scenarios are people trying to make peace with their car lacking a key feature..

3rd row Air

agree, and with the factory third row, you get rear air . Helps out in those really hot days here in the Central Valley when you need to cool the interior down quickly.

I agree too... except I have a 3rd row.. but no rear air  Wish I had it..
Hot Florida days make cooling a workout for my front AC... and X is black too.

I went to the Ocoee Auto Auction last year to get my Explorer. 100's to choose from. V8 and not white was at the top of the list.. If it was v6 I didn't even look at it.

The one I found was V8, 3rd row, leather, moonroof, 4x4, etc and black too

I figure I saved $5k off retail at the auction (a friend of mine is a dealer and got me in)... but I don't think Id get what I paid for it if I sold it now. What the hell I didn't buy it as an investment anyway, It was just something I wanted.

I have a v8 and I love it.

I don't have 3rd row seating and I love it. I sleep in the back of my truck regularly... and prefer not sleeping on a 45 degree angle. So yea... I am glad I don't have 3rd row seats because they would just take up room in my garage.

Obviously you haven't seen an X with a 3rd row. The third row is built in (not removable like the Expedition) and when folded down, is nearly flat to the rest of the cargo area. There is a slight incline, but I wouldn't hesitate to sleep in my X.

I have to disagree on the V8. I specifically wanted the flex-fuel v6. I get 22-25 mpg using modest driving techniques, and as expensive as gas is, that is a big benefit. It is also possible to fill up on E85 which we have an abundunce of here in Tennessee. I dont think it is possible to get that kind of Economy on the V8.

The yearly difference in cost between 16mpg and 20mpg is 1000 bucks per year. That is based on a daily trip of 60 miles at a modest cost of 3.80 per gallon. Of course the savings goes up as gas prices increase, or if you drive more. If you drive less then the savings go down, but the cost per mile remains constant.

At age 36 I would have never guessed I would be cruising at 55mph but it saves a ton of gas. I am a conservitive, but Carter was right during the first "gas crisis" when he pushed for 55mph speed limits on the interstate. We just cruise in the slow lane. The only time I dont follow the 55mph rule is if I am going on a long trip 100 miles or more. Then the time adds up and I will go 70, but only because over ten hours that is a savings in time of several hours and on a vacation I dont mind paying a little more to get there more quickly.

Were you able to trade your third row seat. If not I would be interested.
