Can't help but happen if everything stayed the same (except QC fixes). Everything didn't stay the same during recent quarters to years. They'd made too many new vehicle changes in such a short period of time.

Good for him. Too late for me. They've already lost a customer for life. My 1972 MGB was built better than my Explorer... ummm maybe my memory has faded a bit.

^ You bought the first model year of a generation with substantial changes over the prior. Big gamble from any automaker.

I think your expectations are too low. Indeed it was the first model year of a new generation but I did expect Ford to deliver a well built vehicle. They delayed the release of the current Explorer so many times that there is really no excuse for not delivering a well designed, well built car from the start. Job 1 as they say. Ford certainly didn't offer big discounts because they were new models that should be expected to be full of bugs. I have also owned a Chevrolet Trailblazer and Audi S4 that were the first model years of new vehicles or new generations. Both were flawless. At least my 2020 had a proper 2-bolt rear sub-frame. They waited until Job 2 or 3 to mess that up.

Like I stated, it's a gamble. You win some, you lose some. Winning at gambling doesn't make it a *safe* choice to keep doing it. Buy what you want, as will I , and it won't be anything where it's the first model year with substantial changes.

If nothing else, this forum is a reason. The longer a vehicle design has been out there, the more owner/peer feedback you get on problems and resolutions, and the more aftermarket parts are available so you aren't paying a premium for the motorcraft parts' markup price... when it can be avoided without quality issues, which I concede is a mixed bag, sometimes aftermarket is as good, sometimes not.
