Ford EXPLORER ENGINE UPGRADE HELP URGENT

I HAVE A 92 FORD EXPLORER SPORT,THE CAR HAS 150000 MILES ON IT.SOMEONE WANTS TO SELL ME A 98 ENGINE ,BUT I AM NOT SURE IF THE ENGINE WILL FIT MY 92 EXPLORER.

MY FIRST QUESTION IS WILL IT FIT AND IS THERE ANY MAJOR CHANGES I HAVE TO MAKE.

SECOND,WILL I NEED TO CHANGE WIRING HARNESS ? SHOC OR OHV

THIRD ,WILL THE FLYWHEEL LINE UP WITH OLD TRANNY,MY EXPLORER IS A 4X2 .


FOURTH ,IS 650 A GOOD PRICE FOR A 98 FORD EXPLORER ENGINE WITHOIUT BOLT ON PARTS.

650 seems like a good price to me.

As long as its another OHV it will bolt in. The exhaust, mounts, bellhousing bolts will all work- the only thing is the crank flange:

You need the flex plate or flywheel from the 98 engine to match your tranny. The the 98s used an 8 bolt crank flange and the 92s have a 6 bolt flange- so your Flywheel or flex plate will not work if you have a different trans than the donor engine.

For the electronics hook up, just remove them from the 92 and back date the 98, shouldnt be a problem, differences will be EGR, and the CMP sensors most of the others are the same.

I am a little dumb,but what do i need from the 98 explorer .I am new to this car engine swapping thing thank god for this forum because you guy's know everthing about explorers.The guy who wants to sell the engine has the entire car so if i need additional parts they are avaliable from the 98.

I would get the whole engine assembly and make sure you get the flywheel or flexplate for the engine. Just disconnect all of the wiringharnesses and fuel lines at their disconnects and that should be fine. From what I have seen yhou should be able to disconnect the exhaust system at the manifolds. May want to get the motor mount cushions if they are in decent shape - they may be better than the 92's

I believe that the fuel lines will hook up to your 92, the other harnesses you will have to check one by one, if they dont then replace them and what ever they connect to with the ones from your old engine. There will be a couple of things on the 98 that the 92 doesnt - just leave them alone.
