They would be much more successful if they put an innovation/technology center somewhere besides a rusty, s-hole like Michigan. But, positive news on the technology front for car buyers coming up in the future.

Ford is about halfway through its goal of hiring 3,000 salaried employees this year, as part of its largest hiring blitz in more than a decade. The bulk of these jobs will be engineers and IT specialists who will be based in Michigan.

That is unnecessary.

I think Ford will be as sucessful as they choose when determining the level of investment and priority of technology in their business. If you are suggesting a company like Ford couldnt attract top-flight, world class tech talent to MI - I would say that idea is fantastically obtuse.

I am nowhere near the that part of the US - but suspect companies like Google, GE, Imagesoft and S2 Games - also in MI... do not find it a 's-hole' - and are quite successful on the technology front.

I am in technology - have been for 25 years - and would even consider moving half way across country to land a solid position with a company like Ford. I doubt I am alone.

I dont agree with the statement either. However, there are many things which are negatives for Michigan. Sure its #3 in IT growth, but attracting people to live there is going to be tough. IT will always move to the cheapest location ($$$ and sense right). I for one wont move there even if they paid me 2X what i make now. Sometimes its more than money. IMO Ford should have decentralized and had their IT in a more IT relevant/attractive place to lure people. You will see and as probably tell from the article's author they willl recruit overseas a high percentage of the 3K

What i am trying to say is maybe it was a bit too discritptive for Michigan, and certainly not respectful to those of the people on this board that are from there. Also people need safety, etc etc and Detroit, Michigan (from what i heard, isnt all that attractive)
