Im going to buy a car with this package, and I must say it sounds good for a stock system. I'm not one who gets real into audio, but out of curiosity:

Are they better speakers or just stock ones w/ a sub?

If I were to upgrade the speakers, what price range would I be looking at?

Thanks.

It's not what price range we can tell you, it's how much you can spend. You'll get nothing BUT opinions with a question like this though.

Ok, well maybe this is an easier question to answer:

What speakers come with the premium sound system, and wheres a link to one that is in the same category I can look at online?

the only differnce between non-premium and premium speakers in the 3rd gen (02+) is that the front two speakers have "tweeters" built in and the factory amp/sub combo. i recently purchased an 05 with the premium system and for me its a waste. i took everything out within the first week after purchasing it and replaced it all with aftermarket stuff. the sound quality is slightly better than stock, but no where near comparison with aftermarket set-ups. check around for coaxial speakers (MBquartz, alpine, pioneer, etc).

also, IMO it would be better to just replace a non-premium set up with aftermarket stuff (headunit, speakers, etc.). when i had my 03 explorer i had the regular stereo in it and then upgraded everything with in a few months. the difference is HUGE.

Thanks guys. Like I said above, I dont get into audio much and probably would never buy a sub or amp for any of my cars. Having one in this X is all new to me, it hits hard enough for now. I have other plans for the truck then new audio equip, I was just wondering how the premium package stacked up.

are you going to be putting it on cardomain? if so, provide a link so we can check it out. the one thing that i regret is getting my system before rims and some exterior stuff. it will be good for you for a while. although, i would check out some aftermarket stuff just for sh!ts and giggles. get a feel for the whole aftermarket audio scene.

but if you are one that the LOUD radio is not really a big deal then the factory items will be just fine..
My 2002 is very adequate for what I listen to.Which is mostly talk radio, sports and the only music ever played is when my wife drives it and is cranking Metallica.

Unless you have the need for LOUD music the factory items should be sufficient enough for you..
Just my 2 cents.

I enjoy loud music and the hard thump of a sub, just not enough to go spend my hard earned dollars on them myself. I figure this truck already has it, and it sounds pretty good. It should do for now. Who knows, maybe this will get me started into the whole audio thing and I'll be sucked in buying all kinds of **** and building newer bigger boxes to hold all of it. :) I should have the truck by the end of the week, I'll post some pics then.

i like suvs for the room they have in the back, thus the reason i havnt switched overto a truck yet, because in a truck you cant fit 2 900w subs and a huge 1200W amp without taking passenger room away, if your into audio but dont want to spend money, dont worry about it haha
