2020 Explorer XLT
Hi. I am new to the forum as you can see, but not new to Ford as I am a life long Mustang guy. Our second vehicle is a new 2020 Explorer XLT which is why I wanted to find a good place to ask questions due to the limited amount of info their seems to be on this vehicle. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction on the first issue I am having a little trouble with. Now this is not an actual issue with the vehicle, we love it, but an issue in trying to figure out if or where I could attach a T-harness to add a 4 pin trailer connector. I have looked all over the rear of the vehicle, but all I see is a harness for the backup sensors. My next thought is that their may be a place on the rear interior behind either side plastic panel where I could find this. The manufacturer of the harness I bought only indicates that this could be one of the areas a connection point could be located but says nothing specifically for the 2020 Explorer. Before I go to the trouble of removing the rear interior plastic panels I would at least like to know if I am wasting my time or not. I have written to Curt the harness manufacturer, but haven't heard anything back. I thought maybe someone on here had run into the same issue and would have some insight. Thanks, glad to be aboard.

I left my 4 Pin coiled up under the lower cargo tray. I just pull it out when I need it and run it through the back hatch.

The harness i purchased from Curt is the 55384, which I am thinking now is not correct. This is the part number E-trailers said I needed when I looked it up. My understanding was their is a harness that I could connect this T harness into to provide power to the 4 pin, but this looks a little more involved than a simple plug and play set up. The explorer referenced in the above link is not a 2020. I can't imagine Ford would use a different vehicle wiring harness for a vehicle that did not come with the towing package, just have a point where a towing harness could be added, i may be wrong in that assumption though.

I misunderstood your question.

I used the Tekonsha 118599. It was plug and play with T connections at the tail lights. I added an amp and a sub to the back, so I just tapped off that line for power.

That part is for the Explorer with the factory tow package.

Yep, now I see where I made my goof, didn't see the"with factory tow package" part like mentioned above. i will go back and order the Tekonsha 118599. Thanks for all of your help.

Welcome to the Forum.
I take it that your XLT doesn't have the factory tow package. If so, are you aware of the 3000 lb. towing weight limit with an aftermarket installation?
