I have a 94, 4.0, 4X2, XLT. Ever since I bought my explorer i have had an engine noise when i speed up on the interstate and just when i push the gas pedal down pretty well. but it was so bad the my check engine light would come on and would stay on for about 5 min. and the go off i was so annoyed.
So I had it checked out at a ford dealership here in my town and they said it was my mass air flow sensor(MAF) and they said they had one in stock but it was going to cost $200 so i said no and went to a junk yard picked one up for $13.00 and it took me 5 min. to take it off and put the new MAF on and after i did that no more problems no knocking no engine light it ran like it was supposed to good as new.
I hope this helps some of you out there with this same problem.
