It looks like it might have been a plug for the dipstick tube from the factory . It's got a rounded head with a oring on it , and the other end has a long stem (about 2 inches long) it is all plastic . It was down in the sump of my 96 5.0 Explorer tranny pan . When I removed the pan and lowered it down , I saw it in the fluid down in the sump .
I changed the fluid (drained torque converter also) and replaced the filter with a new one . Truck shift 10000 times better than it did before the change and I could find nowhere the plastic plug belonged so I assume it was for shipping the tranny or something to keep dirt out and was dropped in the tranny and left there durning assembly .
