So like I have seen a hundred times, I installed a pioneer double din in my explorer and had the "pop" from the factory amp on turn on. So I was on the hunt for a buck converter to install when I realized that I had a bunch of old car phone chargers laying around. I chose one that was a 1.5a version. Popped the case off, soldered a couple wires on, and stuffed the whole thing inside an old relay case. Works great, and was made from spare junk that was just laying around.

I have used 12v cig Sirius adapters numerous times for the same deal, actually did one this week.

I read and read on here about how to overcome the pop and never saw anything about going this route. Everything I saw was about buying a purpose built buck converter. Hope it helps someone in the future.

Any pics of yours? Mine isn't fancy by any means, but is working great. Didn't take any pics of mine finished, just slid it inside an old relay case and taped the end up.

I'll post up a pic of my focus one as it tied in line right before the amp in the trunk(and easiest to take pic of). I used one in my 07 Focus and my girl's 04 Explorer both have aftermarket radios with factory subs.

I was able to keep it all in the cig plug case so no worries of it shorting out also.

I have had no sub popping issues using a PAC OEM-2, and then changing that an AudioControl LC2i...

I like it. As a side note, I have gutted one out and soldered input whips onto the PCB and stashed it above the overhead console with a short mini USB to power my dashcam. This eliminated the cig lighter cord (which seems to produce a lot of RF interference).

To add on this I zip tied my converter to my factory amp wires at first and had a crazy hum till I moved it
