Fried Tranny?

I was towing my friends car last Saturday and made it about 20 miles before transmission fluid starting pouring out from under the truck. I immediately pulled into the nearest parking lot and turned the truck off. I could not tell where the fluid was coming from and when I tried to move again it would just rev up and not go anywhere in any gear. I had to leave the truck where it sat, and came back the next morning to see what was going on and couldn't find anything broken, cracked, or wrong underneath. So I decided to add 2 quarts of fluid to see where it was leaking from and it did not leak anywhere. I went and got 6 more quarts and added until it was full. No leaks anywhere. I ran it from park down to 1st and back up a few times to get fluid moving, still no leaks. I drove the car 2 miles home with no issues and haven't driven it since.

Since it doesn't appear to be leaking anywhere, does anybody have a clue as to what might have happened? I can only assume that the fluid got too hot and started boiling and had to find a way out, but I see no signs of a blown gasket or cracks in the pan/ transmission. I'm completely clueless on whats up...

There is an overflow tube from your transmission, look under and its a solid steel tube. This is where your fluid came out of. These transmissions like to "puke" when they get under a lot of stress/overheat. You might be due for a rebuild soon, but I know some who have just put more fluid in and keep driving it, me included.

I thought it had to be something like that, but I didn't know these trannys had an overflow tube. Makes sense though. I filled it with fluid and drove it home, no issues, no leaks. Looks like it's at least time for a filter change. Still haven't driven it since the incident, but nothing really seems wrong. Thanks for the reply.

You overheated the tranny and the fluid expanded and poured out,now the not so nice part.You probably did some damage but it's too late to worry about it now,flush the tranny and hope for the best.It might last and it might not as these tranny's are kinda junk.
