I appear to be the victim of someone else's poor workmanship. ABS light has been on occassionally since I got the truck. Lately it's been on a lot. So I started poking around and noticed the front left abs wire is wire tied to the knuckle. Hmmm... Wire holddown clamp screw broken off.... Then I notice the axle nut is noticeably less rusty than the other side. Pulled out the ABS sensor, and found it is rubbing on the tone ring. Rubbed down through the plastic coating into the metal. I tried shimming it out just a bit, but no luck. ABS still functions until the light comes on, but it doesn't stay working for more than a couple miles.
The sensor is only rubbing on about 1/2 of the tone ring, so that tells me it's either a really poor quality part, (Dorman?), or the bearing is shot already. It feels tight, but I do have a funny knock in the brake pedal, and some highway vibration.
Don't know if anyone has seen this before, but I don't think this situation is repairable without a new hub and sensor.
Thoughts?
