Well, I am starting to get some oil spray off the pass side seal between the half shaft and the axel housing. The pinion shaft seal also leaks.

Anyone ever had this work done on 98+ Explorers and can tell me what I am looking at for cost here?

I could to it myself if I had some insight as to what I am getting myself into.

Is this a matter of pulling the axel and changing the seals or do I need some special seal puller? Removing the axel is not a problem, it's getting it apart to change the right parts.

Anyone with experience on this please help.

Thanks.

I had the dealership change out my pinion seal since they only wanted $40 to do it.

I changed my driver side halfshaft seal a couple weeks ago. Wasn't too hard, just takes some time to get the halfshaft out. The seal is pressed into the diff. Mine was a PITA ass to get out cause I didn't have the right puller. Shouldn't be too hard with a seal puller & slide hammer though.

Oh and a new seal is only $11 from the dealership.

From what I saw in the Haynes you need to pull the half shaft out from each side of the axel correct? I saw that re,moving the diff is not required so that is great. I will do it myself...thanks for the info.

Correct, just pull the halfshaft.
