front axle question

2001 SPORT TRAC 4X4. When you have it in 2wd, I know the half shafts will spin at vehicle speed, but does the front drive shaft also spin?I have a mud tire noise on de-accel and Im tryinbg to locate where the problem could be..just replaced the hub and bearings on both sides.

Everything spins, but when you are in 2wd the T-case is just not engaged

So the nosie could be anything in the front end then.I am gonna try un bolting the front drive shaft and see if the noise is still there.
